Electronic attacks hitting luxurious British stores

Several British retail companies, including the luxurious “Harrods” store and the “Marx & Spencer” series, were subjected to electronic attacks during the past days, according to what companies announced on Thursday.

Harrods confirmed that it “monitored unauthorized access to some of its systems,” noting that the cybersecurity team took “pre -emptive steps to protect systems”, which included limiting access to the Internet temporarily in all the company’s sites, without affecting the continued work of its stores, including the main branch in Knightsbridge.

For its part, Marx & Spencer is still suffering from the repercussions of an attack with the ransom virus that caused the disruption of electronic sales and non -contact payment inside the stores since the Easter holiday, and also led to problems in supply and employment.

The company said in a statement that “its technical team, in cooperation with experts in cybersecurity, is working extensively to restore services, especially digital platforms.”

In turn, the company “Co-Op” confirmed its exposure to an electronic attack that led to a limited impact on some support services and communication centers, but it did not indicate an impact on direct sales.

No party has yet confirmed whether these attacks are interconnected, while anxiety in the British commercial circles is increasing from the coordinated attacks targeting the retail sector. (RNZ)
