Hamas delegation leaves Cairo after talks with Egyptian officials

The Hamas leadership delegation left Saturday evening, the Egyptian capital, Cairo, after talks with Egyptian officials that dealt with efforts to cease fire in the Gaza Strip and end the continuous war since October 2023.

The movement said in a statement that the delegation, headed by Mohamed Darwish, the head of the Hamas leadership council, conducted extensive consultations with Egyptian officials, during which he presented the movement’s vision to reach a comprehensive deal that includes the ceasefire, the exchange of prisoners, relief, and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

The statement stressed that the Egyptian side was agreed to continue efforts and communicate to make the ongoing endeavors a success, with a focus on the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the besieged sector since the seventh of October 2023, and the call for an urgent move to deliver humanitarian aid, food and medical materials to the population.

This comes as the Israeli forces continue their wide military operation on the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the death of more than 51,000 Palestinians and the injury of more than 117,000 lanes, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Health in Gaza.

Earlier on Saturday, the Palestinian Civil Defense announced the death of at least 34 people as a result of Israeli air strikes targeting residential houses and displaced gatherings in separate areas of the Strip.

The departure of the Hamas delegation to Cairo comes amid media reports on extensive contacts to revive indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas with Egyptian, Qatari and American mediation, in an attempt to reach a new truce agreement that includes arrangements to release Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, and improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
