In his speech today at Beirut Airport, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam spoke of what he called “the launch of the project to rehabilitate the Rafic Hariri International Airport and the rehabilitation of the Honor Salon.”
In this context, we are interested in clarifying the following:
First: During the state of our government, and within the framework of the comprehensive development plan for the infrastructure of the road network on all Lebanese territory, His Excellency the Minister of Public Works and Transport on Hamiyah launched two strategic projects to rehabilitate and maintain roads leading to Rafic Hariri International Airport. In September 2024, the rehabilitation and maintenance of the road from the Sports City was launched through the airport and the spending of cookies Khalda to Sidon and the old airport road from the Shatila round to the airport.
These two vital projects include an integrated group of engineering and construction works from the rehabilitation of the entire road infrastructure, including paving and settlement, and modernizing sewage systems. The two projects also pay special attention to enhancing traffic safety elements from implementing traffic marks and installing metal barriers. One of the important aspects of the two projects is to address the red points known as the rainwater gathering, which was causing torrents and obstruction of traffic.
The two projects were previously implemented by a precise preparatory process that included the field disclosure by the engineering teams of the Ministry in the spring of 2024, where the two projects were obligated in accordance with the provisions of the Public Procurement Law, and after obtaining the approval of the Accounting Bureau as a result, the official permission was issued to direct in September 2024. However, the security conditions resulting from the Israeli aggression led to the suspension of the work temporarily in addition to entering the winter season and it is not suitable for road works Renewing the work directly to the spring of this year.

Creating the rapid corridor of passengers at the airport

Second: In the context of efforts to develop the infrastructure of Rafic Hariri International Airport and improve its services, the government has allocated part of the airport’s revenues to maintain and develop the airport after the approval of a law in the parliament for that goal, and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport worked to prepare many projects and the necessary credits were provided, including the resumption of work on the creation of the rapid corridor designated for departure passengers that reduce the overcrowding and increase the airport capacity on The absorption of additional million passengers, as the required amount was transferred to the Council of Development and Reconstruction to implement the entire project within 6 months.
There are many projects that were equipped with the necessary credits to secure about 30 million dollars, but the delay in the process of announcing the projects was delayed as a result of the aggression, as the priority was at the time to maintain the continuity of the airport’s work.
In conclusion, the country of President Mikati, who considers the ruling continuity, praises the current government implementing projects that have been put in the era of his government, including the rehabilitation of the airport road and the creation of the rapid corridor, but as other Lebanese are waiting for the government to carry out greater achievements and implement what the Lebanese promised in its ministerial statement.
