Facebook and Instagram content monitoring company canceling 2000 jobs after breaking a contract with “Mita”

In a move that vowed with extensive social repercussions, trade union sources revealed that the company “Tilos International”, responsible for overseeing the content of Facebook and Instagram platforms, intends to lay off more than 2000 employees in Barcelona, after breaking its contract with the “Mita” group, the parent company of these two platforms.

The CCOO Syndicate (CCOO) announced in a press statement that the “Tilos” administration was officially presented, during a meeting held on Monday morning, a collective disbursement plan that includes 2059 employees working in the content supervision department from the company’s offices in Barcelona, northeastern Spain.

The end of a decade … and the beginning of a crisis

The reasons for the decision are due to the end of cooperation between the giant Canadian company “Tilus” and “Meta”, which owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, which led to the suspension of operations related to supervising the content in this vital site.

According to the union, a preliminary agreement was reached to ensure affected employees “the maximum possible legal compensation”, in light of the continued negotiations on the final exchange mechanisms.

Other trade unions had previously indicated an approximate number of 2000 employees covered by the cancellation process, confirming that the final number is still under negotiation.

“Telos” refuses to disclose … and “dead” is silent

For his part, a spokesman for “Telos” refused to confirm the number of jobs that will be removed, stressing that the discussions are still ongoing, and that the company is making efforts to provide “comprehensive support” to the affected employees, including the possibility of redistributing them to other sites without prejudice to their allocations.

On the other hand, “Mita” did not issue any comment on the topic despite the attempts to communicate by Agence France -Presse.

Updates on supervision policies in “Meta”

It is noteworthy that the “Meta” group had announced, last January, the end of the fact -finding program in the United States, as well as updating its policies regarding the supervision of content, in a move that sparked controversy over its commitment to combat false news and misleading information.
