The Vatican abandons the tradition of the Pope’s robe

The Vatican abandoned the tradition of the “Pope’s robe”, which dates back centuries, according to which three white papal dressers were sewn as soon as the Pope died.

The newspaper “Telegraph” reported in a report that for successive generations, the tailor of the Gammarelli store in Rome was preparing to sew a white papal parliamentary as soon as the Pope died, to be ready before the successor of his successor.

And with the lack of knowledge of who will be the next Pope, they were making three Arbets of different sizes (small, medium, and large) to ensure that one of them is compatible with the choice of the leadership of the Catholic Church, which includes 1.4 billion believers around the world.

However, this ancient tradition was broken this year after the death of Pope Francis, as Gamarili’s tailors received direct instructions from the Holy See not to sew a new Jordanian, with the approaching date of the secret complex (Conclave) in the Sistin Church next Wednesday. Instead, ancient repetition will be used from previous elections after cleaning and equipping them.

Despite their strong loyalty to the Vatican, the tailors did not hide their disappointment. “We feel some sadness. We were offering Urdu at the front of the store for days, and customers came to watch it. But this time we will not do it. It is part of the history of Rome, and one of the traditions that we cherish. All our workers feel proud when working on the pope’s robe,” said Massimiliano Gamarili, 63, who is one of the four cousins who owned the ancient store that was established in 1798.

The Vatican did not issue an official explanation for this change, but the tailors believe that the decision reflects the convictions of the late Pope Francis, known for his austerity and opposition to waste, as it was possible that the reuse of ancient Urdu is better than a new industry.

This is the first time in nearly fifty years that the Vatican has not requested a new Jordanian Pope. “I don’t think it is necessary to speak on behalf of the companies. Not every curiosity needs an answer.”
