A disaster in Palestine .. and the victim journalists

This came within the report of the organization’s freedom index for the organization, and Israel clarified the decline of 11 ranks to the 112nd rank for continuing the repression of the news media.

The organization said that Palestine, which ranked 163, remains one of the most dangerous countries in the world for journalists.

She pointed to the large number of journalists and media workers killed by the Israeli army, and the constant exclusion of foreign correspondents, explaining that the media there “witnessed the destruction of the news rooms and their equipment.”

Previous reports said that “more than 145 journalists were killed by Israeli forces in Gaza since the war in the Strip began in October 2023, 35 of whom were working at the time of their killing.

A difficult global situation

The organization said that the freedom of the entire global press has reached its lowest level ever, according to the annual index of the non -profit organization.

No country in the Middle East and North Africa region enjoyed freedom of the journalism in general, as the freedom of the press in a quarter of these countries was classified as “problematic”, in the other half of it as “difficult”, and in another quarter as “very dangerous”.

The organization indicated that the publication of the year 2025 of the Freedom of Press Index for the organization and the first to classify the status of international media is “difficult”, which is a reduction in its previous “problematic” situation and the second lowest possible degree.

Reporters Without Borders attributed this decline to an “unprecedented and decisive decrease” in the financial health of the free press.

The organization creates its degrees for freedom of the press by evaluating 5 “indicators” that include economic, political, legal, social and cultural contexts in each country in addition to its security situation.

In 2025, the average scores (out of 100 degrees) reached 54.7 degrees in all 180 regions that were evaluated, a decrease from 55.9 degrees last year, which is a low level enough to move to the “difficult” category set by Reporters Without Borders.

The organization pointed out that Norway is still the only country to have a “good” evaluation, while Estonia advanced 4 centers to occupy the second place, followed by the Netherlands (with one position).

Sweden also fell one position to occupy the fourth place, Finland remained fixed in fifth place, and Denmark fell 4 places to occupy the sixth place. (Al -Jazeera Net)
