Municipal elections .. This is Hezbollah’s internal and external message

Despite the noise of official statements about municipal entitlements, Lebanon lives in a state of electoral inaction, similar to awaiting an appointment that may not come. In the background of this complex scene, Hezbollah stands as one of the most prominent affected people from this stalemate, especially in its southern regions, which suffers from a fatal administrative void amid a permanent military escalation with Israel, and the almost complete collapse in infrastructure and services. The municipal elections, which are supposed to be a periodic entitlement every six years, turned into a political paper mortgaged by “inappropriate” conditions at times and sometimes logistical, but in reality it expresses the depth of the crisis of the regime that is terrorizing the polls. The delay is no longer just an option, but it has become a habit, and the frozen or disjointed municipalities leave a vacuum that weighs the shoulders of local communities, especially in the areas that were historically dependent on the municipalities as a semi -alone pillar of daily services.

Hezbollah is certain, that these elections are not similar to any previous elections, as it finds itself coincided with a fragile administrative reality in its regions, as it cannot activate the domestic councils ’extended or new elections amid this legal and financial void. Also, the continuation of paralysis exacerbates the crisis of trust between it and its popular base that demands services, not slogans, but he sees that he is running hard elections remains better than keeping everything postponed to an indefinite notice, while villages and towns, from the south to the Bekaa, live on administrative crumbs, and a suffocating financial crisis.

It may appear on the surface that the delay is a political interest of major powers, but the reality is that Hezbollah, who has always presented itself as a defender of its environment, is facing a sharp internal dilemma today. The state’s absence from its responsibilities automatically holds additional burdens, and he is no longer able to cover all gaps, neither security nor service, as the upcoming elections will not be merely an administrative entitlement. It is the moment of real sorting in an exhausted political environment. But if it is postponed again, and this option is excluded, it will be an additional link in a long series of collapses, which people pay first, and the power parties later.

Despite the chaos surrounding the municipal merit, Hezbollah seems almost the only one who entered this stage in a state of preparedness. For him, the elections are not a burden, but an opportunity. It is suitable for renewing the popular pledge of allegiance in its regions, and reviewing the size of the attendees and confidence that its rules are still exchanged for it, despite all the stressful circumstances. It does not hide his ambition to convert this local entitlement into a message addressed abroad, according to which the party is still the most coherent and organized political power in Lebanon, unlike the rest of the praising forces between differences and organizational loss. Accordingly, sources believe that for Hezbollah, the upcoming municipal elections exceeds that they are merely a routine local entitlement. It is a double strategic opportunity, through which he seeks to confirm his political presence at home, and to send a clear message abroad. After the past months, which witnessed a military escalation with Israel, and repeated attempts by some international bodies to remove or trim its military nails, the party seems more insisting on saying: “You may besiege us in the field, but we are still popularly difficult.

In this context, the alliance with the Amal Movement is the foundation stone in the party’s electoral strategy, where the two parties work to distribute roles and coordinate regulations, especially in villages and cities that may witness intense competition. The goal is not only to win the councils, but to preserve the image of the unified Shiite front in the face of any possible breakthroughs, whether from local opposition powers or external support .. It is a battle to prove the existence of civil means, after it was imposed on it to some extent.

But the message is not only abroad. Internally, the party is completely aware that its environment is waiting for it more than the slogans. She looks forward to concrete results in the face of collapse, and an effective local authority that is not managed, except for the reconstruction process. Hence the importance of these elections for him: restoring the initiative, confirming confidence in his street, and reproducing its legitimacy from the polls portal, at a time when the country is witnessing a state of political erosion and loss of hope.
