Syria faces a serious humanitarian crisis

Iran’s permanent representative to the UN Security Council renewed his country’s call for immediate withdrawal of all foreign forces from Syrian territory, stressing the need to respect the sovereignty of Syria and its territorial integrity.

In a session dedicated to discussing the humanitarian and political situation in Syria, the Iranian delegate said that Syria is facing a serious humanitarian crisis, pointing out that relief efforts there suffer from a severe lack of funding, which exacerbates the suffering of the Syrian people, especially in the areas affected by the war and natural disasters.

The Iranian delegate accused the “unjustified” American restrictions of obstructing relief efforts and delaying the reconstruction process, adding that these measures increase the suffering of the Syrians and prevent the improvement of their living conditions.

He stressed that the Syrian authorities should ensure the protection of all groups and segments of Syrian society without discrimination, noting the importance of returning all foreign fighters to their countries of origin in the context of respecting international law.

Regarding the political solution, the Iranian delegate stressed the need to hold free elections with wide participation, under the umbrella of a university government that represents all components of the Syrian people.

The delegate concluded his speech by denying that his country had any moves aimed at destabilizing Syria or any country in the region, stressing that Iran is working for permanent and comprehensive stability in the region.
