Among them is medicinal and food .. These are the most prominent industries of Lebanon

The industrial sector in Lebanon is one of the most prominent sectors facing great challenges as a result of the continuous economic and political crises, in addition to the recent repercussions of the Israeli war that affected the infrastructure and production.

However, there are still prominent industries that contribute to the Lebanese economy and seek to develop despite the difficult circumstances .. What are they?

1. Food industries

The food industries are the main pillars of the Lebanese economy, as it is a large part of local production and contributes to export.

Although many factories were damaged by the war, especially in the regions of Nabatieh, southern Lebanon and Mount Lebanon, the official authorities confirmed the support of these industries as part of the country’s cultural and economic identity

2. Technical industries and innovation

The technology sector has witnessed a remarkable growth, with an increase in the number of startups in the areas of artificial intelligence and cloud computing.

Technology exports amounted to about 323.8 million dollars, which reflects the great capabilities of this sector, according to the “Nucamp” website.

3. Advanced industries

These industries include medical devices production, laboratory supplies, water treatment equipment, and other products that require advanced technologies.

5. Pharmaceutical industries

The pharmaceutical industry in Lebanon in 2025 is one of the vital sectors facing great challenges, but at the same time it is witnessing unremitting efforts for development and support.

The Lebanese pharmaceutical industry was greatly affected by the economic crisis that started in 2019, which led to the high prices of medicines by more than 1100% between 2018 and 2022, especially for life -saving drugs such as cancer and sclerosis.

Likewise, the recent Israeli war for Lebanon has disrupted the import of raw materials, and the distribution and sale of drug products in vital areas such as southern Lebanon, Bekaa and the southern suburb of Beirut.

In the face of these challenges, the Lebanese government launched several initiatives to support the pharmaceutical industry, including:

– The Minister of Industry, Joe Issa El -Khoury, met with a delegation from the Pharmaceutical factories union, where a detailed working paper was presented on the reality of the pharmaceutical industry, its importance and its positive reflection on the state in terms of health, economic, financial and social aspects

-Issuing ministerial resolution No. 264-2025 regarding the work of pharmaceutical institutions on the Meditrack system, with the aim of improving drug tracking and ensuring their quality.

– The proposal of a law from MPs George Bushkian and Bilal Abdullah to support the national pharmaceutical industry, by amending Article 16 of the Public Procurement Law in Lebanon, to provide preferential regulations for the local industry.

The pharmaceutical industry in Lebanon is considered a promising sector that needs continuous support and cooperation between governmental and private agencies to overcome the current challenges and achieve sustainable growth.

6. Traditional industries

Traditional industries such as the cement industry, brick, ceramic, and wood products continue to play an important role in the local economy, despite the challenges they face.
