An upcoming parliamentary session to keep up with the spring meetings in Washington

It will start next week with entitlement related to the meetings of the Lebanese delegation in Washington with the “International Monetary Fund” and the “World Bank” on the sidelines of what is known as “spring meetings”.

According to ministerial sources, this important visit has three goals, the first of which is: completing the discussion with the Monetary Fund to crystallize the government’s reform program and reach an agreement with it at the end of next summer, while the second goal is the discussion with donor countries and international institutions and knowing the extent of their willingness to help Lebanon economically and financially, while the third goal of the visit is to communicate with dozens of international private companies to attract them to invest in Lebanon.

In this context, a session of the House of Representatives may be held during the next week or before the end of the month at the latest, in conjunction with the International Monetary Fund meeting, which may give positive signals in terms of commitment to the required reforms, especially since the reform projects that will be presented on the agenda, foremost of which is the subject of banking secrecy and the structure of banks, is one of the most prominent demands by the International Monetary Fund.

The source explained to “Kuwaiti News” that “there is an implicit consensus between the main political forces to benefit from the scene’s preoccupation with the religious holiday to pass these appointments smoothly and without noise, while taking care to choose names that enjoy a large extent of efficiency and political balance in a way that contributes to moving the wheel of development and financial work in a precise stage the country is going through.”

The source revealed that “the ongoing consultations away from the lights are moving towards activating the work of the constitutional and administrative institutions by filling the vacancies in a deliberate way, while keeping the door of understandings open to various parties, ensuring the protection of the internal scene from any sudden vibrations.”

He continued: “Easter holiday will provide a precious opportunity to take breaths and quietly rearrange the priorities, away from the conflict rhythm that printed the last stage.”
