Targeting the southern suburb

Targeting the southern suburb

Targeting

In an unprecedented scene, Israel recently bombed the southern suburb of Beirut, with tremendous destruction, during which dozens of residential buildings affected.

In a move that observers considered a dangerous escalation not only Hizbullah,

Rather, it carries messages that exceed the party, to affect the Lebanese state and its sovereign institutions directly.

The bombing was not an accident in the context of the ongoing confrontations on the southern front,

Rather, it represented a qualitative shift in Israel’s military policy towards Lebanon, under an open international cover.

Retired Dean, George Nader, described this escalation as a blatant violation of the accepted red lines,

Stressing that Israel no longer dispersed its targets between Hezbollah and the Lebanese state.

This opinion interrupted ministerial sources that spoke to the newspaper “Al -Sharq Al -Awsat”,

She was afraid of Washington’s disapproval of playing the role of the officer to the Israeli motivation,

What opens the door to more black scenarios, devotes the state to the disintegration of the state and turned Lebanon into a completely permissible square.

What raises concern more, is that Israel has previously informed the American side, which it built the bombing of the southern suburb,

Cursing the existence of factories to manufacture Iranian conducts belonging to Hezbollah on the lower floors of the targeted buildings.

However, these allegations, according to Lebanese official sources, have proven that they are not based on field evidence,

This prompted Washington to direct a smooth till for Tel Aviv, without any actual pressure to stop the Israeli military insecurity.

Here the question is asked, Has the Lebanese state just a recipient of strikes, and unable to defend its sovereignty?

This question is raised today sharply in the Lebanese political circles, especially in the absence of any active official response,

Or even a strict diplomatic position, expressing the scale of the disaster that afflicted the southern suburb,

Which is considered one of the most populated areas in the capital.

Duplication of the American position

It is noteworthy that the American administration, despite its blame for Israel against the background of targeting residential buildings, did not initiate practical steps to deter them or prevent the repetition of these violations.

Rather, this blame is seen as a kind of ash in El -Ayoun, aimed at beautifying the scene in front of international public opinion,

While Israel gives the full cover to continue the policy of field pressure, in preparation for imposing a political agenda related to the Hezbollah weapon and the reality of Lebanese sovereignty.

The American equation is clear: there is no Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon without a clear timetable for withdrawing the party’s weapon, and linking it to the process of “extending the sovereignty of the state.”

But the reality says that this link is a ready -made recipe for an internal explosion, in a country where sectarian and political accounts overlap, and regional loyalties collide.

Official silence after targeting the southern suburb is deficit or collusion?

The government of Nawaf Salam and the presidency of General Joseph Aoun is committed to the official position calling for the restriction of weapons in the hands of the state.

But this commitment is not translated on the ground, and is not associated with a clear executive plan, which raises question marks about the seriousness of these statements, or its actual ability to subject the party to the logic of the state.

Are we facing a state of deficit, or in front of a convincing complicity aimed at postponing the inevitable confrontation with the party under the slogan “National Dialogue”?

“Hezbollah” and the postponed dialogue

The party, for its part, promotes its willingness to dialogue, but it does not show any real signs of its weapon, and it bets on time, and the results of the American -Iranian negotiations, believing that time is still playing in his favor.

However, the regional reality has changed, and beyond the support of Gaza is not as before, and this party realized this well with the violent Israeli reaction to the suburb.

Ministerial sources confirm that dialogue with the party cannot remain open indefinitely, and that the Lebanese state, if it is really serious in restoring its sovereign decision,

It must set a clear time frame for this dialogue, and to link its results with comprehensive security and political reform programs.

The Control Committee .. a broken job after targeting the southern suburb

As for the International Control Committee on the ceasefire, it was today closer to a symbolic institution unable to play its role.

The Israeli escalation takes place in front of its eyes, and the violations are almost daily, while the Lebanese army waved not to cooperate with it if it is confirmed that it is used as a cover to justify the attacks.

Lebanon, which relies on a quiet summer to revive its collapsed economy, finds itself at the heart of a military and political storm, threatening not only its security, but its presence as a state.

In the absence of international guarantees, the retirement of the American role, the persistence of Israel, and the silence of the United Nations, Beirut appears to be a dangerous existential test.

Double Israeli messages

The messages that Israel wanted to send through this escalation, “Hezbollah” exceeds Iran and the Lebanese state. The first message is addressed to Tehran: “Beirut is no longer a safe Iranian influence.”

The second for the party: “The rules of engagement have changed, and the return to before supporting Gaza is no longer possible.”

It thus re -confuses regional papers, taking advantage of the state of Lebanese paralysis, and from the international cover granted to it.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqji’s visit to Beirut did not go out of the framework of diplomatic compliments, and did not address the hot items.

This was interpreted as an implicit recognition of the change of the rules of the game, and that Iran has become ready to fold a page of its public intervention in Lebanon, and focus on more priority files.

Lebanon is at the junction of my destiny

It is no longer possible to ignore reality: the Lebanese state is collapsing, and the international community deals with it as a fragile entity without actual authority.

As for Hezbollah, it is in front of two options that have no third: either serious engagement in the state project, or a escalating internal and external isolation.

At the same time, Israel remains ready to invest every Lebanese weakness, security and politically, to impose its conditions on everyone.

What is required today is not only a dialogue between the state and the party, but a comprehensive national vision that redefines the concept of sovereignty, and puts an end to the state of institutional disintegration that allows all parties – internal and external – to manipulate the fate of Lebanon.
