A Russian military plane crashed into the sea off the coast of the Crimean peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014.

The governor of the city of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozaev, said in a message via the Telegram application, “A military plane fell into the sea,” without indicating any reason behind this accident.

Footage circulated on social media showed a burning plane falling from the sky.

Razvozaev added, “The pilot jumped safely and was recovered by rescue personnel in Sevastopol, about two hundred meters from the shore,” explaining that “his life is not in danger.”
