17 killed in air strikes in eastern Syria

At least 16 pro-Iranian fighters were killed in night air strikes targeting their positions in Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Tuesday, while the World Health Organization announced the killing of its worker in the same area.

A previous toll by the Observatory indicated that 14 fighters loyal to Tehran were killed.

The Observatory did not immediately determine who carried out the strikes in Deir ez-Zor, which is regularly targeted by Israeli and sometimes American raids.

A US military official told Agence France-Presse that Washington “did not launch any air strikes on Monday or Tuesday night.”
