The Palestinian camps weapon awaits the state’s initiative to address it
Dr. Sarhan Sarhan, Deputy Secretary of the Fatah movement in Lebanon, notes that the file of weapons outside the camps “was closed permanently after the delivery of 6 military bases to the Lebanese army, while the file of weapons inside the camps is not currently proposed, and no Lebanese official authority has proposed with the PLO or any other faction this issue, and if we are walking with everything that the Lebanese agree on, we are ultimately under the roof of the Lebanese law, Aoun and Mahmoud Abbas.
Sarhan talks to Asharq Al -Awsat about “3 types of weapons inside the camps, a disciplined weapon in the hands of the PLO and the opening of an uncontrolled weapon with Islamic groups, and a weapon that escapes in the hands of arms and drug dealers, and we need a Lebanese security cover to eliminate the third type and this scourge.”
Hisham Dibsi, director of the “Development Center for Studies”, explains that “the Palestinian weapon inside the camps is often, with a rate of up to 90 percent, an individual weapon owned by all organizations, whether those affiliated with the Palestinian (Tahrir) Organization or anti -organizations, such as the (Hamas) movement and some of the Palestinian left forces allied to it, but there is also a presence of some stores that contain certain types of missiles. These stores are followed primarily for the movement (Hamas) and (Islamic Jihad), as these missiles were previously stored in the camps within the framework of the alliance with Hezbollah.
Dibsi notes that «the (Fatah) movement is the only one that possesses medium weapons with valuable, and it was previously delivered upon an official request, heavy and medium weapons. There is currently no problem between (Fatah) or (the PLO) on the one hand, and the Lebanese state on the other hand, “noting that” with regard to the delivery of weapons spread extensively inside the Palestinian camps, with the exception of the Nahr al -Bared camp, which has become under the full control of the Lebanese army, there are two positions: the position of the Palestinian (Tahrir) organization, which is a clear and continuous position for a long time, stipulating the full readiness to cooperate with the Lebanese state and its security and military equipment State security and respects its sovereignty. ”
On the other hand, Dibsi says: “There is the position of the hard -line Islamic forces, specifically the forces affiliated with (Hamas), which see that the weapon inside the camps should be a negotiation paper with the Lebanese state to obtain specific rights, amendments or agreements. However, this proposal contradicts the official policy of the (Tahrir) organization, which committed to the Lebanese state to hand over weapons without any conditions.
Dibsi concludes that «the ball is now in the Lebanese state stadium, and the question is: What is the work plan that Lebanese legitimacy will present? And when this plan becomes clear, success will be its ally, with the support of the legitimate Palestinian partner.
