Dani Alves is free on €1 million bail

A Barcelona court announced that Brazilian footballer Dani Alves, who was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for rape, has paid bail of one million euros and will be able to leave prison.

Alves (40 years old), one of the most decorated players in the world, was sentenced last month to prison for raping a young woman in the bathroom of a nightclub in Barcelona.

On Wednesday, a court in Barcelona approved his request for temporary release while his appeal was considered, on the condition that he pay bail of one million euros ($1.08 million), hand over his Spanish and Brazilian passports, remain in the country and present himself to the court “weekly.”
