Mikati welcomes the Security Council’s decision
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcomed “the resolution issued by the UN Security Council calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during the holy month of Ramadan.”
Mikati said, “This decision constitutes a first step in the process of stopping the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, the likes of which has not been recorded in modern history.” The lesson remains Israel’s commitment to the provisions of this resolution, which would provide an acceptable basis for Palestinian relief and assistance.”
He added: “What is required remains to launch a political path that will end the ongoing conflict and give the Palestinians their rights on the basis of commitment to international resolutions and the two-state solution.”
Regarding Lebanon, Mikati renewed his call “to the concerned countries to put pressure on the Israeli army to stop its ongoing aggression against southern Lebanon.”
