After a Russian attack…an emergency power outage in Odessa

The largest energy supply company in Ukraine, DTEK, said on Monday that electricity was emergency cut off in the Ukrainian port of Odessa today after a Russian air attack damaged a high-voltage facility there.

The company stated, on the Telegram platform, that “the situation is still difficult… In order to reduce the load on the network, electric transportation will not operate in the city today, and industrial consumption will also be limited,” according to Reuters.

The Odessa administration reported, on the Telegram platform, that the city and the region were attacked by several waves of drones launched by Russia, noting that 4 of them were shot down over the neighboring regions of Odessa and Mykolaiv.

The administration added that the debris resulting from the fall of a drone led to a fire in the electricity facility, which was immediately extinguished.

The company said that electricity was restored Monday morning to two areas of the city.

The Russian Sputnik news website quoted the head of the military administration in Odessa, Oleg Kiper, as saying that the energy infrastructure in Odessa has been damaged, and part of the city is now without electricity.

“There is damage to the energy infrastructure, and there is no electricity in part of Odessa,” Kiper wrote on his Telegram channel.

The Ukrainian newspaper “Strana” also stated, through its Telegram account: “Local residents are reporting explosions in Odessa.”
