Guarantee criticizes the minimum wage: it does not generate enough revenue

The Director General of the National Social Security Fund, Dr. Muhammad Karaki, strongly criticized the government decision that raised the minimum wage in the private sector to 18 million liras without addressing the salary increase that exceeds that limit. He stressed, “The decision came under pressure from economic bodies, and does not bring in revenues for social security of more than 1,000 billion liras, while the Security Fund needs 30,000 billion liras to be able to return its contributions to what they were previously.” Karaki stressed to “Nidaa Al Watan” that workers and employees “must move and put pressure strongly, otherwise the authority will not take into account their opinions and interests, nor will the economic bodies whose only concern is continuity and accumulating profits.”
