Virgin Atlantic and British Airways announced that the wingtip of a plane belonging to the first company, with no passengers on board, collided with a parked plane belonging to the second while it was being towed at Heathrow Airport in London, today, Saturday.

Heathrow Airport, Britain’s busiest airport for passengers, said that no injuries among passengers had been reported, and that it did not expect this incident to continue to impact any of its operations, stressing that it was dealing with the incident in cooperation with emergency services and the two airlines.

British Airways confirmed, in a statement, that “its engineering teams are evaluating its aircraft and have provided an alternative aircraft to reduce the impact of the accident on its customers,” while Virgin Atlantic said that its aircraft was a Boeing 787-9, and that it had just completed one of the flights.

She explained that the accident occurred at the third passenger terminal, while it was being towed to another area.

A Virgin Atlantic spokesman said: “We have launched a full and comprehensive investigation, and our engineering teams are conducting maintenance checks on the aircraft, which has been taken out of service at this time.”

He added that the accident will not affect the company’s flight programs today. (Sky News)
