Nothing will deter Germany from efforts to support Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz urged continued Western support for Ukraine in its war with Russia, saying on Saturday that Germany would not be deterred by efforts to support Kiev.

Speaking during a gathering of European Social Democrats in Bucharest, Schulz said that the best way to prevent any escalation, including a possible conflict between Russia and NATO, is effective deterrence, as he described it.

The German leader added: “The war in Ukraine ends the moment President (Russian Vladimir) Putin decides to withdraw his forces.”

He continued: “However, he will not make this decision unless he realizes that he will not be able to win the war on the battlefield.”
