International Monetary Fund: The agreement with Lebanon is firm

He attended the international agreement signed two years ago between Lebanon and the International Monetary Fund, during two meetings held by the Fund’s Executive Director, Mahmoud Mohieldin, with Presidents Nabih Berri and Najib Mikati.
Mohieddin denied that the Fund had any intention to cancel the agreement signed with Lebanon.

The Prime Minister received the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund, who said: My meeting today with Prime Minister Mikati comes within the framework of a series of meetings that I will hold with a number of Lebanese officials, to review the relations between Lebanon and the IMF, and the ongoing preparations for the visit, which will be made by a delegation from Lebanon headed by the Vice President. The government will go to Washington in the middle of this month to participate in the Fund’s meetings.”
In response to a question, Mohieddin denied that the Fund had any intention to cancel the agreement signed with Lebanon.

In this context, the European Union mission and the embassies of member states represented in Beirut considered that, two years ago, on April 7, 2022, Lebanon and the International Monetary Fund agreed on a program of steps and reforms, the implementation of which would have provided aid worth $3 billion, and additional support from donor countries. It puts Lebanon back on the path to recovery, and restores its international credibility. It expresses its regret that only limited progress has been achieved.
The mission said: “The election of a president of the republic and the formation of a fully functioning government are essential. However, delay should not hinder the implementation of the key reforms agreed upon in order to restore the confidence of the international community and Lebanese citizens in the financial system. The adoption of the 2024 budget within the constitutional deadlines, the reform of the banking secrecy law, and the stabilization of the exchange rate have shown that solutions are possible when there is the will.
