America is on high alert in anticipation of an Iranian response to the consulate attack

An American official said on Friday that the United States is on high alert and is preparing for a possible Iranian attack targeting Israeli or American assets in the region in response to an Israeli bombing that killed an Iranian military commander in Syria.

The official said, confirming a report by the American CNN network: “We are certainly in a state of high alert.”

US President Joe Biden discussed the threat posed by Iran in a phone call Thursday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“Our teams have been in regular and ongoing contact since then,” a senior Biden administration official said. The United States fully supports Israel in confronting threats from Iran.”

Iran threatens to punish Israel…the most prominent statements
Iran vowed again on Friday to punish Israel during the funeral of seven officers killed in an air strike on the Iranian embassy compound in Syria that Israel suspected of launching this week.
Among those killed in Monday’s attack on the Iranian embassy compound in the Syrian capital, Damascus, was Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Major General Hossein Salami, told the crowd gathered in Tehran, “The actions of the (Israeli) enemy against the Republic of Iran will not go unanswered… Our brave men will punish the Zionist entity.”

The semi-official Iranian Tasnim news agency reported that Mohsen Rezaei, the former commander of the Revolutionary Guard, said in his comment about the possibility of Iran’s retaliation against Israel that “the decision has been made and will certainly be implemented,” and he did not provide further details.
This attack was the boldest in a series of attacks targeting Iranian officials in Syria since December, and it is also the largest in terms of the number of deaths it caused.
Iran has vowed to respond forcefully, raising fears of a broader war in the region and prompting the Israeli military to suspend leave for all combat units on Thursday, a day after it announced the mobilization of more troops to reinforce air defense units.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that Israel would harm “anyone who harms us or plans to harm us.”
