Representatives of moderation are counting on their meeting with Hezbollah and the opposition to build on what it requires.
Informed political sources confirmed that the “Moderation” representatives are very much counting on the upcoming meeting between them and the representatives of the “Loyalty to the Resistance” bloc, because the talks would clarify the course of the presidential initiative that they are completing in a second round. The party was given time to study the initiative, especially since it had some concerns about it, before announcing the “final word” on the call to engage in the issue of consultation, which is supposed to lead to the election of the President of the Republic. If his answer is that he maintains his position of supporting the nomination of the head of the “Marada Movement,” former Minister Suleiman Franjieh, which means that he does not support the consensual president, or the search for the “third option,” then this means that the initiative will not make its way to Parliament. But if the party agrees to go to consultation, which is unlikely, then it can be said that the “moderation” initiative will be the beginning of the solution to the presidential crisis.
Regarding the options of the other parliamentary blocs, most of them were clarified during the first round of talks, with the exception of the “Marada Movement” bloc and the “National Accord” bloc, which did not clearly define their position on the “moderation” initiative, and they were given more time, although They did not request to study the proposal submitted by the “moderation” representatives to each of them. Therefore, announcing their position during the second round would put dots on the letters, especially with regard to their approval of the “third option” or not. That is why the “moderation” representatives are counting on the expected meetings that will take place with these parliamentary blocs, before the ambassadors of the “Five-Year Committee” resume their movement towards the forces and blocs after Eid al-Fitr.
In the opinion of the sources, the three aforementioned blocs will not agree to go to consultations in the House of Representatives, before calling for the 13th session to elect the President of the Republic, because, as the sources explained, they are demanding guarantees that they do not believe they will obtain from the other blocs. This matter would complicate the task of the “moderation” representatives who hope to reach a unanimous consensus on the principle of consultation, as they see it as necessary for the success of their presidential initiative.
