Arab and international condemnations of the targeting of the Iranian consulate in Damascus

On Monday, Arab and foreign countries condemned the bombing by suspected Israeli warplanes of the Iranian consulate in Syria.
The UAE said in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that it “condemns the targeting of the Iranian diplomatic mission in the Syrian capital, Damascus.”

Qatar also condemned the attack, and the Foreign Ministry considered it in a statement a blatant violation of international agreements and charters and diplomatic norms that criminalize attacks on the headquarters of diplomatic missions.
In its statement, the Qatari Foreign Ministry stressed Doha’s refusal to target diplomatic and consular missions and the necessity of providing protection for their employees in accordance with the rules of international law.

In turn, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs condemned the attack, as the ministry’s official spokesman, Ambassador Sufyan Al-Qudah, said, “Targeting the consulate represents a serious violation of international law, and an attack on the sanctity of diplomatic headquarters protected under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry, for its part, condemned the attack, stressing in a statement that “Israeli aggressive actions are unacceptable and must stop,” according to Sputnik.
The statement added: “We draw particular attention to the fact that the attack was carried out in a densely populated urban area, resulting in a high risk of mass casualties among the civilian population.”

Pakistan condemned the attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus.
